The Courtyard Inn

This building has a sign hanging out front that reads "The Courtyard Inn". It's doors and shuttered windows are locked from the outside and a resinous violet ichor stains the wood. The building is currently acting as a prison for sixty adult captives and the ten remaining children who were captured during the believer uprising.

The conditions inside are squalid; fear and hopelessness pervade the air. Enforcers come each day and remove a few prisoners;
some are taken to the vent to work and most return, exhausted at the end of the day. Others are taken for processing; these never return. Those that meet the illithids' expectations are either turned into thralls to work in the vent, kept for other purposes while those judged to be substandard are kept as food.

Ground Floor

1. Taproom

The walls, floors and sparse furnishings are spattered with blood as well as smeared with resinous purple ichor. One round table and three mismatched chairs stand in one corner and are used by the illithids and the enforcers when they are inspecting the stockade. A large table with a barrel of ale and an assortment of bottles stands in another. A flight of stairs leads up to the accommodation while a trapdoor gives access to the cellar.

First Floor

2. Blood-Stained Corridor

The floor and walls of this corridor are stained with blood and scuffed as if unwilling prisoners had been dragged along it. At west end is a locked wooden door. Other doors leading off of the corridor are wedged tightly shut.

3. Loft Ladder

A ladder gives access to the loft via a sturdy trapdoor in the ceiling

4. Small Chamber

This chamber was once a private chamber for guests. Now it is a prison for the ten remaining children. They are all in a poor condition and are used by the illithids for getting into the tighter passages underground and for hauling out the rubble. Each has a brand on their arm indicating that they are worker-thrall.

5. Small Chamber

This chamber was once a private chamber for guests. Now it is empty, though the stains on the walls suggest that it was once used as a prison for the villagers. The floor has collapsed into the tap room below

6. Large Common Chamber

This would have been a common chamber for guests to stay for a few copper pieces a night. Now all the furnishings have been removed and it is crammed with many of the remaining villagers. Some have been branded with a mark indicating that they worker-thrall, some have yet to be assessed.

Amongst the commoners is Eina, a healer. She has been blinded by the illithids and branded with a brand showing she is worker-thrall. She tends the sick and injured as best she can with a diminishing supply of herbs and ointments.

Cellar

8. The Cellar

Amongst the normal contents of a inn's cellar (barrels of ale, casks of salted meat, sacks of beans and vegetables) lurks more sinister items. A pile of bones, picked clean by rats, fills one corner of the room. Human and demi-human skulls, some neatly sliced open lie scattered about amongst the other disarticulated bones.
